Festus faces DeSoto for first place in JCAA Boys’ Large-School Division on KJFF

(Festus) A huge boys’ basketball conference showdown comes your way Friday on KJFF.

The DeSoto Dragons visit the Festus Tigers with first place in the JCAA Large-School Division on the line.

DeSoto is 3-0 in the league but just 9-9 overall.

And despite a strong senior core with stars like Aidan Blair, Nick Krodinger and Jordan Mertens, the Dragons have lost two of their last three.

But head coach Zeb Hammond says he’s telling his team to stay the course.

Festus is 4-1 in conference play and had won 5 straight before Tuesday night.

The Tigers’ normal explosive offense, paced by sophomore point guard Ahrmad Branch, was stymied in an 82-54 loss to Farmington.

Head coach Jason Therrell thinks the key to bouncing back against DeSoto lies in the half-court struggles his team had against the Knights.

The Dragons won the earlier conference meeting this season 57-52, but the Tigers cruised to a 63-46 win when the 2 teams met at the Central Christmas Tournament.

DeSoto takes on Festus Friday evening with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
