Festus faces Herky in girls’ hoops showdown on KJFF

(Herculaneum) 2 of Jefferson County’s best in girls’ basketball over the last decade meet up Monday as the Herculaneum Blackcats host the Festus Tigers on KJFF.

Festus was on the precipice of a 2-0 start to conference play before an overtime loss at Perryville on Thursday.

But the Tigers have still started 6-2 thanks to junior Josie Allen and senior Kinsey Benack.

Head coach Steve McFarland says his team is really firing on all cylinders.

Herculaneum is 4-4 but has lost 3 straight.

The Blackcats have gotten great play from 6-foot senior forward Macey Pilliard, who is averaging better than 19 points and 12 rebounds per game.

But head coach Riley Blair says their record does reflect a start that can be best categorized as a mixed bag.

The Blackcats broke a 4-game losing streak to the Tigers by winning the last meeting in 2019.

Festus meets Herculaneum Monday evening on AM 1400 KJFF.

Coverage begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show just after 6:30.
