(TROY) The Festus Tigers lost 31-7 to Class 6’s Troy Buchanan on the road tonight on AM 1400 KJFF as the time-of-possession game proved beneficial for the Trojans.

The opening drive of the game went 7 plays and 50 yards and resulted in a 1-yard touchdown run for the quarterback Max Mitchell to put the Trojans up 7-0. The Trojans then forced a Festus punt and then took 7 minutes off the clock with a 15-play, 60-yard drive capped off by another Mitchell 1-yard run.

The halftime score was 17-0 in favor of Troy after a made 22-yard field goal from Mason Gessert toward the end of the break. The highlight of the 2nd half for the Trojans offense was a pass play from 30-plus yards out.

The extra point put the score at 24-0 Trojans in the 3rd.

On the ensuing kickoff, Festus freshman Landon Bradshaw returned it up the middle for 89 yards and the score. But then the Trojans stole any momentum the Tigers might have had on the following possession.

Festus head coach Russ Schmidt thought that despite the loss, it was a win not to pick up any more injuries.

The Tigers fall to 4-5 with the loss but will get the chance to either host DeSoto or Sikeston in the first round of the Class 4 District 1 tournament next Friday.
