Festus falls at Union in Class 4 quarterfinals on J98

(Union) The Festus Tigers had their football season end with a 34-25 loss to Union Friday night on J98 in the Class 4 state quarterfinals.

Festus couldn’t slow down the Wildcats early, as they scored on each of their first 2 drives.

Senior Cayse Martin would step up for the Tigers, returning the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown.

And even after Festus fell behind by 2 scores again, the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game would make a big play on a bit of trickery.

Festus only trailed 20-13 at halftime and scored on the opening drive of the second half, but they missed the tying extra-point kick.

It wouldn’t matter, as Union senior running back Gavin Wencker continued to plow through the Tiger defense.

Wencker finished with over 140 yards rushing to go with his 5 touchdowns as Union improves to 7-4.

But despite the loss, Festus head coach A.J. Ofodile still had praise for his team.

Festus ends the 2020 campaign with a record of 10-2, the most wins in a single season in over a decade.
