Festus fights to knock off Herky girls’ hoops on KJFF

(Herculaneum) The Festus Tigers gritted their way to a 46-45 win over the Herculaneum Blackcats Monday on KJFF.

Herculaneum jumped out to a 7-0 lead and was up for most of the first half thanks to some big 3-point shots from senior guard Sammie Maddox.

Maddox finished with 12 points, while Macey Pilliard paced the Blackcats with a game-high 17.

But Festus rallied to tie the game up at halftime, and they ultimately rallied all the way back thanks to a big night from junior guard Mya Courtois.

Courtois only hit that one shot, doing all her scoring otherwise at the free-throw line.

Courtois went 7-of-10 at the charity stripe and finished with 10 points.

The Tigers got the defensive stop on the last play of the game.

Emily Holt lead Festus with 13 points, and Josie Allen matched Courtois with 10.

Courtois was named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week and said it felt good to have that kind of shooting night.

While Herculaneum falls to 4-5 and will be off until the new year, Festus improves to 7-2.

The Tigers move on to the Central Christmas Tournament starting with a matchup with Potosi December 27th on J98.
