Festus, Hillsboro renew girls’ hoops rivalry on KJFF

(Festus) The Festus Tigers and Hillsboro Hawks duel in a big girls’ basketball conference showdown Thursday on KJFF.

The winner will be in sole possession of second place and control their own destiny to win the JCAA Large-School Division.

Festus has relied on stingy defense and the scoring of junior guard Josie Allen to start the season 11-4.

But the Tigers took a rare loss their last time out against Seckman.

Head coach Steve McFarland says the mistakes they made Tuesday cannot carry over.

Hillsboro has struggled to find a rhythm throughout the season.

Despite sophomore Kaylee Hilton averaging almost 13 points and 11 rebounds per game, the Hawks have lost five of their last eight to fall to 5-8.

All three games between the teams last season were decided by 6 points or fewer, with the Tigers taking a pair of thrillers from the Hawks.

Festus hosts Hillsboro Thursday evening with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
