Festus looks to continue state dominance in boys’ cross country

(Festus) The Festus Tigers will continue a proud tradition of late in cross country when they participate in the MSHSAA state championships Friday.

The Festus boys have won a whopping 6 straight team state titles and will have a total of 7 runners who individually qualified for state.

The girls team also moved on to state.

Head coach Bryant Wright says all his runners accomplished a lot in spite of a tough field in Class 4 District 1.

The Tigers had the top 4 individual times at the District 1 championships, with sophomore Cullen Krieg and juniors Jacob Meyers and Nathan Wolk coming in just behind sophomore champion Ian Schram.

Wright says Schram has shown he’s capable of great things for a while.

Juniors Anthony Pittman, Ethan James and Peyton Willis also qualified individually for state.

To go with the girls moving on as a team, senior Demi White and sophomore Dari White moved on for Festus.

Now the focus shifts towards the state race in Columbia.

Wright shares what his message will be to his Tiger team.

Festus will participate in the MSHSAA Class 4 cross country championships at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia on Friday morning.

The girls’ race will start first at 8:30, with the boys to follow at 11.
