Festus’ Meyers adds Dream Team Athlete of the Year from boys’ track to cross country

(Festus) Jacob Meyers made sure this spring that there was no doubt left about who was Missouri’s best high school distance runner.

The Festus Tigers senior brought home 4 state championships in track & field after a second-place finish in cross country.

And, just like he did in the fall, he earns Regional Radio Dream Team Athlete of the Year for boys’ track after a dominant season.

But just making the Dream Team has been one of his goals.

Meyers came close to a perfect season in cross country, finishing as the runner-up at the Class 4 state championships after winning district and sectional titles.

What followed on the track was pure perfection.

Meyers won conference, district, sectional and state crowns in the 800, 1600 and 3200-meter runs.

He says teammates, competitors and his own will to win drove him to reach such great heights.

And Meyers credits faith, family and friends for being his fuel.

Meyers also ran a leg on the Festus 4-by-800m relay team, which won a third straight Class 4 state championship after third-place finishes at both districts and sectionals.

He’ll continue his career in both cross country and track at Wichita State.
