Festus’ Montgomery named Dream Team Baseball Coach of the Year

(Festus) Jeff Montgomery of the Festus Tigers is the 2022 Regional Radio Dream Team Baseball Coach of the Year.

Montgomery guided Festus to one of the winningest seasons in program history, going 27-9 and reaching the Class 5 state championship game.

While he’s grateful for the recognition, Montgomery says that kind of success is a group effort.

Along with conference and district championships, Festus made it to the baseball Final 4 for the fourth time in school history.

The Tigers then knocked off defending state champion Willard to reach just the second state title game in team history.

Montgomery says the secret sauce was to keep the faith, no matter the situation.

And Montgomery wants to acknowledge the senior class for setting the right example for the rest of the squad.

Festus had 3 players selected to the Class 5 all-state team in senior third baseman Conner McDonald and junior pitchers Ian Brown and Nate Moore.

Sophomore shortstop Hayden Bates also represented the Tigers on the Dream Team.
