Festus municipal courts still on hold

(Festus) Many municipalities are no longer relying on court fines to be a major income revenue stream like in the past. However, those fine monies are not coming in at all in some parts of Jefferson County. The City of Festus transferred all of its courts to the Jefferson County 23rd Judicial Circuit. City Administrator Greg Camp says municipal courts at the county level are not happening.

While municipal court proceedings have been postponed numerous times at the county level, which includes the cities of DeSoto, Festus, and Hillsboro…..municipal courts have taken place a handful of times in Arnold, Crystal City, Herculaneum, and Pevely with a few cancellations. The 23rd Judicial Circuit has had other cases heard over the past several months, but jury trials are still postponed.
