Festus, North County collide in girls’ district semis on KJFF

(Bonne Terre) A spot in a championship game is on the line when the Festus Tigers meet the North County Raiders in the Class 5 District 2 girls’ basketball semifinals Monday on KJFF.

Festus came back to knock off Hillsboro in the district quarterfinals.

Junior Emily Holt and sophomores Josie Allen and Mya Courtois have helped their team win nine of its last 11 games to get to 10-7.

But Tigers head coach Steve McFarland says his squad has a tough defensive assignment ahead.

North County has put together an outstanding season, going 17-4 thanks to the height of sophomore Lainey Calkins, junior Kamryn Winch and senior Emily Pruneau.

But Raiders head coach Joe Arnold says the addition of junior guard Tyler Conkright has taken the backcourt to new heights.

The Raiders won last season’s meeting with the Tigers, but the winner this time gets either DeSoto or Farmington for a district title.

Festus faces North County in the Class 5 District 2 semifinals Monday evening at 6.

Pregame coverage starts at 5:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
