A pillar of the city of Festus has died.

City officials and the family of Festus parks superintendent Larry Crites announced that he passed away early Thursday afternoon at the age of 62.

Crites had suffered a cardiac episode Sunday and was taken to the hospital, but he had been released before he suffered another episode and could not be revived.

Barb Lowry with Festus Public Works says Crites was a beloved co-worker.

Crites had served as parks superintendent since 1997.
Lowry says, even in a supervisor role, Crites was an example of kindness from her first days working for the city.

And Lowry says her thoughts are with Crites’ family, who he loved dearly.

Crites first started working with the parks department as a part-time employee in 1981 and began full-time work 2 years later.
He served as parks foreman starting in 1989 before he was promoted to superintendent.
There is no time set for visitation or a memorial service at this time.
