Festus seeks MAFC Red Division crown vs North County on KJFF JeffCo Friday Night Football

(Festus) The final piece of a conference-championship puzzle may be found Friday when the Festus Tigers host the North County Raiders on Jefferson County Friday Night Football on KJFF.

The Tigers are unbeaten and can win the MAFC Red Division outright with a victory.

North County will not be a pushover, though.

The Raiders are 3-2 and averaging 37 points per game.

Still, North County head coach Brian Jones believes, when his team struggled and lost twice so far this year, his offense didn’t get off to a strong start.

The Raiders still have a chance to win a share of the conference title if they can come out of Festus with a win.

Jones knows that’s a tricky proposition against the fifth-ranked team in the state in Class 4.

The first season of a new era of Festus Tigers football has obviously started fast, including beating league rival Hillsboro last week for the first time in 6 years.

But there have been bumps in the road, like the injury to star senior running back Austin Anderson.

Head coach A.J. Ofodile says his team has never wavered regardless of the situation.

Junior quarterback Cole Rickermann has thrown 13 touchdowns, and the Tiger defense has been stout, allowing just over 15 points per game.

But, even going back to training camp, Ofodile says North County has been seen as a measuring stick for how good this team can be.

Festus won a wild shootout at North County last season, 56-40, which made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers after they had lost 3 straight in the series with the Raiders.

Now Festus looks to earn the MAFC Red Division crown on Jefferson County Friday Night Football.

Coverage starts with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 6 Friday evening on AM 1400 KJFF.
