Festus Slays Ste. Genevieve in Season Opener

(Ste Genevieve) The Festus Tigers took down the Ste. Genevieve Dragons 41-13 tonight in week one of the new high school football season heard on the MyMOInfo SportStream. The Dragons came out strong on the defensive side of the ball getting a stop on 4th and 1 in Tiger territory. Five plays later Zach Boyer took the end around into the end zone to put the dragons up early.

The Tigers bounced back quickly as junior quarterback Cole Rickermann connected with Daylen Wagoner for an 8 yard touchdown pass to tie the game.

It was all Festus from there on out. The Tigers scored on their next three possessions with the defensive touchdown mixed in. Rickermann threw for 5 touchdowns with one interception as the first half clock wound down, and Senior running back Austin Anderson claimed Applebees of Farmington Player of the game honors scoring in a multitude of ways.

Anderson scored a third time on the night connecting with Rickermann to stretch the lead.

That score made it 34 to 7 in favor of Festus. After the game, Tiger head coach A.J. Ofodile had high praise for Anderson.

Ryan Weik, son of Ste. Genevieve head coach Ken Weik, took the helm on the sideline tonight in place of his dad. After the game, he said he saw some things they like and know they have plenty to work on.

Festus moves to 1-0 on the season and will take on Sullivan at home next week. Ste. Genevieve takes on a Valle Catholic team that beat Skyline 48-0 tonight.
