Festus-Ste. Genevieve Advance In Winners Bracket Of Legion Tournament

(Ste. Genevieve) Festus Post 253 and Ste. Genevieve Post 150 came away as winners to start their week at the American Legion baseball District 13 tournament last (Tuesday) night on KREI and KJFF. In the first game, Festus knocked off Mineral Area Post 416 8-6. Post 253 jumped out to an early lead.

Festus found themselves up big in the late stages, but Mineral Area nearly rallied.

Post 253 ultimately got the final out of the game to win for the seventh time in the last 8 games and improve to 12-13. Post 416 falls to 5-5.

In the second game of our doubleheader, Ste. Genevieve Post 150 defeated Rock Memorial 283 12-5. Ste. Genevieve got out to a quick lead, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Aaron Eftink expanded the lead to 7 with a 2 RBI single in the third. But Rock Memorial would start to claw back into the game. A huge hit by Riley Daughtery sparked some life into Post 283.

Rock trimmed the lead to 4 by the bottom of the sixth. But with bases loaded and 2 outs, Dream Teamer and All-State Catcher Josh Bieser crushed the first pitch he saw.

Bieser was our Applebees of Farmington Player of the Game, going 3-3 at the plate with two singles, a home run, and 4 RBIs. Assistant Coach Jason Blum says that grand slam starts with team effort.

Ste. Genevieve improves to 18-8 and Rock Memorial falls to 12-10.
