(IMPERIAL) The Class 3 District 2 first round is in the books as the Festus softball Tigers and St. Louis Notre Dame Rebels have advanced.

Tonight on AM 1400 KJFF, the 5th-seeded Tigers toppled the 4th-seeded Lutheran South Lancers 10-8 behind a pair of big home runs late in the game. With the Lancers in front 7-3 in the top of the 6th, Tiger 3rd baseman Paige Perry unloaded with the bases juiced.

The go-ahead run for the Tigers came in the top of the 7th with a McKenna Templeton RBI single. That was followed up by a two-run home run from Hunter Ellsworth. Tigers head coach Jeff Montgomery wasn’t surprised at Ellsworth’s ability to hold down the fort in relief and then provide some offense as well.

Festus will now face tournament top-seed Hillsboro tomorrow in the semifinals. Hawks Head Coach Kevin Lucas is confident his pitching and offense can carry them to the district crown.

Hillsboro and Festus will have first pitch at 4:30.

In the 2nd game of the night, 3-seed Notre Dame defeated 6-seed DeSoto 11-5 behind a 4-for-4, 3 RBI performance by first baseman Carliee Gilham. The Dragons put up a good fight in the middle innings and the one highlight of the game for them came off the bat of Kaitlyn Hannah.

That was all the Dragons could really muster as Gilham and company broke the 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 4th with a three-spot and never looked back. Rebels Associate Head Coach Brittney Krodinger liked the way her girls responded to the DeSoto comeback.

St. Louis Notre Dame will now play 2-seed Windsor tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

Owls Head Coach Wayne Montgomery and his team beat the Rebels 2-0 going up against Carlee Gilham earlier this year. He believes his team can beat her and them again if they get off to a better start.

Coverage of the Class 3 District 2 semifinals from Windsor High School will begin Thursday at 4:15 p.m. on AM 1400 KJFF.
