Festus tries to ride magic carpet to baseball district title on KJFF

(Farmington) The Festus Tigers are hoping to complete a underdog run for the ages by winning a baseball championship.

Festus faces a Cape Notre Dame team hoping for a similar Cinderella story in the Class 5 District 1 title game Saturday on KJFF.

Lead by sophomre pitchers Nate Moore, Ian Brown and Kaleb Kennedy, the fifth-seeded Tigers have won 4 straight.

Seniors Cole Wagner and Collin Reando have been strong at the plate all year, but everyone has showed up in wins over Sikeston and top-seed DeSoto in the district tournament to get to 14-14.

That’s why Festus head coach Jeff Montgomery doesn’t believe he has a team of underdogs, and neither do his electric young pitchers.

Number-six-seed Cape Notre Dame is on the same 4-game win streak as they prepare to face Festus, bouncing back from losing 11 of 12.

Montgomery says he sees a lot of his Tigers in the opposing Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs have won the last 2 meetings with the Tigers.

Festus looks to make more playoff magic happen when they face Cape Notre Dame in the Class 5 District 1 championship game.

Coverage starts Saturday morning at 10:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
