Fire Crews Respond to 2nd Alarm Fire Outside of De Soto

(De Soto) Fire crews throughout Jefferson County responded to the 4600 block of Route H outside of De Soto for a 2nd Alarm residential fire just before noon on July 21st.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy fire involvement stemming from the basement extending all the way up to the attic of the structure.

De Soto Rural Fire Chief Tom Fitzgerald explains how crews were able to extinguish the fire.

The scene was upgraded from a 1st Alarm to a 2nd Alarm due to weather conditions at the time with the heat and humidity.

According to Fitzgerald one of the firefighters was treated by paramedics on scene for a minor injury.

The residence is occupied; however, no one was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is speculated to stem from a riding lawn mower that had been used prior to the fire and was parked in the garage.
