(Jefferson County) Flu season is officially here and for those people who wish to avoid getting the “bug” as much as possible this fall and winter can now get the flu shot.
Jefferson County Health Department Director Kelley Vollmar says they have the shot readily available.
Last year flu numbers were down due to mitigation strategies in place for COVID-19; however, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects flu cases to be up during this season.
The health department encourages everyone 6 months and older to get the flu vaccine each year.
Getting vaccinated in the early fall is best because it takes about 2 weeks for antibodies to develop and offer protection against the flu virus.
