(PERRYVILLE, Mo.) – Week 1 of the high school football season kicks off on J-98 with the De Soto Dragons taking a trip to face the Perryville Pirates Friday night. This will be the third straight year that these two former district foes will open the season against each other, with the teams splitting the first two games. Perryville won last year’s matchup en route to a 6-3 regular season finish, but now must replace a large group of graduated seniors. Head coach Blane Boss said he’s happy with how the returning players have stepped up.

With both of the last two matchups being decided by a touchdown margin, Boss said this game could go either way.

De Soto finished 4-5 last year and head coach Chris Johnson said he hopes to have a cleaner performance after last season’s 14-7 loss to the Pirates.

Johnson said he’s putting a lot of confidence in junior starting quarterback Briar Fischer.

You can hear the Dragons take on the Pirates at 7 p.m. Friday night on J-98. The Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show will begin at 6 p.m.
