Former Festus Mayor Gene Doyle passes away

(Festus) Former Festus Mayor Gene Doyle passed away on Wednesday at the age of 90. Doyle was the Mayor of Festus from 2003 until 2009. Current Festus Mayor Sam Richards says Doyle was a good man who cared a lot about the city.

Doyle resigned as Mayor in 2009 and paved the way for Festus to have its first-ever African-American Mayor.

Doyle is survived by his wife of 66 years Phyllis Doyle of Festus; children Marilyn (and Terry) Teeter of Overland Park, Kansas, Patrick Doyle of Herculaneum, Kelley (and Bill) Sullivan of Burbank, Illinois, and Janette Becker of Hillsboro; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Gene Doyle are private and under the direction of the Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
