6th Annual Hoops for Hope Fundraiser and Games are Personal to Former KJFF Employee Matt Bates

(FESTUS) The 6th Annual Hoops for Hope basketball games featuring Grandview and Jefferson R-7 and played at R-7 are coming up on Monday and will be broadcast on AM 1400 KJFF.

Hoops for Hope was started 6 years ago by Bill and Andrea Hammock with the idea in mind to raise money through donations for families within the R-7 community who have someone going through an illness or cancer.

One of the families in the R-7 community receiving financial assistance is the Bates family. Renee Bates passed away from a rare blood disorder this past weekend and so her husband, Matt Bates, and their 15-year-old daughter, Amanda, will be receiving a check on Monday between varsity games to help with the financial setbacks from the last year or so.

Bates opens up about Hoops for Hope and his relationship with Bill Hammock.

Matt Bates says that his daughter Amanda has been strong throughout this period in her life with the loss of her mother Renee.

Bates just really wants to take this opportunity to dish out thanks.

The other recipient is Becky Husky, a teacher in the Jefferson R-7 school district.

The funeral mass for Renee Bates is tomorrow morning at 11 with a memorial gathering from 10 until then.

The 6th Annual Hoops for Hope basketball games are once again on Monday at 6 p.m. at Jefferson R-7 and will be broadcast on AM 1400 KJFF.
