Former Potosi Police Officer Facing Federal Charges

(Potosi) A former Potosi police officer has been arrested and is now facing federal charges.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Missouri, 39 year old Matthew Skaggs is facing federal charges related to child sex trafficking.

Skaggs was indicted in late March and arrested on April 5th.

He’s charged with sex trafficking, solicitation of child pornograhpy and coercion/enticement of a minor.

In a story we first reported last year, Skaggs was arrested last August and charged.

The sex trafficking and coercion charges are each punishable by a minimum of 10 years in prison and a maximum of life.

The solicitation of child pornography charge carries a minimum five-year term and a maximum of life in prison.

All also are punishable by a fine of up to $250,000.
