A Ste. Genevieve native had a running year for the ages in 2019.

Former Ste. Gen High school runner Taylor Werner capped her fabulous calendar year by qualifying for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials with a top time at a qualifying race in Boston.

Werner says while her coaches at the University of Arkansas had been prepping her for this moment, it was still an incredible feeling when she finished.

A shot at making Team USA was really just the icing on the cake for Werner, who helped the Arkansas women win 3 different team national championships.
Werner became an All-American in outdoor and indoor track & field and cross country while guiding the Razorbacks to team titles in all three.
The cross country team championship was the first in school history, and Werner says it didn’t happen overnight.

Werner had plenty of family and friends in attendance in Terre Haute, Indiana, when she finished in the top five at the NCAA cross country championships.
She says she’s thankful for her support group, especially the one in Fayetteville.

Werner will be redshirting this season in indoor track to prepare for running in the outdoor season, which will transition to running at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, coming up this June.
