Fountain City Classic basketball in DeSoto cancelled

(DeSoto) High school basketball will be without one of its signature early-season events in Jefferson County.

DeSoto High School announced it will not be hosting the 7th annual Fountain City Classic due to a rise in COVID-19 cases in the area.

DeSoto activities director Jon Roop says things were trending in the wrong direction.

The boys and girls’ tournaments would have begun on December 30th.

North County, Hillsboro, Ste. Genevieve, Fox, St. Pius, Festus, Seckman and Northwest were all scheduled to have teams involved in either tourney.

Roop says the school plans on hosting the Fountain City Classic again in 2021.
