Fredericktown Girls Basketball Hoping Infusion of Youth Can Spark the Team

(Fredericktown) The Fredericktown Lady Blackcats girls basketball team rattled off five straight seasons above .500 from 2012 through 2016 but have found themselves in the single-digit win column over the past three seasons and finished at 7-19 last year.

Head coach Scott Davis says a big focus this year to get back on track will be on playing a four-quarter game.

Fredericktown graduated three players from last year’s team – Mallory Mathes, Kayleigh Slinkard, and Evann Davis.

The Lady Blackcats bring back a young group that will be led by lone senior Shayna Russom and juniors Kyndal Dodd and Alivia Buxton.

The rest of the team is comprised of 12 freshmen and sophomores.

Some of the key returning sophomores are Kylee Maddox, Linley Rehkop, Lydia Mell, and Zoe Sikes.

Coach Davis says he has liked what he has seen from this group so far.

With an infusion of a lot of youth onto the Fredericktown girls basketball team, Davis outlines some of the goals the team has set for the upcoming season.

The Lady Blackcats basketball team opens up this season tonight when they take on the Central Lady Rebels in pool play of the Fredericktown Girls Tournament.
