It’s a battle of the BlackCats Friday evening when Fredericktown travels to face Herculaneum in a Week Two high-school football showdown on Regional Radio.

Despite just 3 wins last season and a 14-0 deficit in the home opener of 2019, Herculaneum battled the weather and the halftime hole to win 16-14 last week against Cuba.

Herky head coach Cody Hunter says any way his team can win, he’ll take it.

Unlike their win over Cuba, last year’s meeting with Fredericktown was a sour note for Herculaneum, surrendering 311 rushing yards on almost 7 yards per carry in a 26-12 loss.

Hunter says the first step to changing that result this year is winning up front.

Fredericktown ran into the eighth-ranked team in the state in Class 3 and dropped its opener 49-0 at home against Kennett.

Still, head coach Chuck Ford thinks his team handed Kennett a lot of short fields and free chances.

But Ford is confident that Fredericktown can bounce back and, as they did last season, get win number one on the schedule by knocking off Herculaneum.

The biggest reason for that is mindset.
