A Fredericktown veteran received a gift from the tech giant Google to honor his service and his current work.

Scott Bates is the executive director of the Battle of Fredericktown Civil War Museum.

Bates took the position after returning home from serving in the U.S. Army.

As part of National Veterans Small Business Week in early November, Google presented veterans running businesses with special edition challenge coins.

Bates served abroad for 10 years working as a helicopter mechanic, a member of the invasion force into Iraq, a squad leader at Camp Humphreys in South Korea and working at Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan.
