Full Day of Fun Saturday at Moses Austin Heritage Festival in Potosi

(Potosi) The Moses Austin Heritage Festival in Potosi is now underway and it runs through Saturday night at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

Chris Richards with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce highlights some of the activities happening Saturday.

Saturday’s events at the Moses Austin Festival in Potosi kicks off with 4H kids from the county showing off some of their farm animals.

Moses Austin was an early American businessman and pioneer who played a large part in the early development of the lead mining industry.

He’s known as the “Founder of Potosi” as he settled in the Missouri Territory on what is now the county seat of Washington County.

When Moses died, his more famous son, Stephen F. Austin, took over for his father and later became known as the “Father of Texas”.

Moses Austin died in 1821.

He is buried in the Potosi Presbyterian Cemetery.
