Gas Tax Increase Goes Into Effect Today

(Jefferson City) Starting today, drivers will pay a little bit more to fill up at the pump in Missouri.

The Missouri Legislature passed a bill this year that would increase the fuel tax by two-and-a-half cents annually over the next five years.

The funds raised will help to fix Missouri’s roads and bridges.

The legislation also includes a rebate option for most drivers if you keep records of the fuel you buy.

Missouri’s new gas tax rate is 19-and-a-half cents a gallon.

That’s still lower than most states.
