Gas tax passage could fast track I-55 improvements

With the passage of the gas tax increase through the Missouri legislature, much-needed improvements to roads and highways in Jefferson County could come sooner than later. State Representative Becky Ruth of Festus says adding the third lane of traffic on I-55 from Pevely to south of Festus will likely be one of those.

Ruth says those wanting to see the additional lane, can make their voices heard through the MODOT website.

Other proposed improvements include the replacement of the Highway 61-67 bridge in Herculaneum, maintenance of 17 bridges along Highway 21, and bridgework on the I-55 bridge over the Meramec River from Arnold into St. Louis County.
