(SAUGET, Illinois) The Gateway Grizzlies baseball team will be playing some games on the upper east coast and Canada next season after it was announced on Wednesday that the Frontier League will be joining forces with the Can-Am League to become one.

Grizzlies General Manager Steve Gomric said that this merger has been in the works over the past two years.

Gomric touched on the cultural aspect of the merger with the Can-Am League, referencing the owner of the Grizzlies.

Gomric added that instead of just bus rides now, the team will have to travel by plane a few times out of the year. With this merger, the Frontier League name will remain as is. Next season will be the 28th for the Frontier League, which is the oldest independent professional baseball league in the country.

The Gateway Grizzlies open the 2020 campaign on Thursday, May 14th against the Evansville Otters.
