Gendron’s New Book Details Crystal City Girl Scout House and Scout History

(CRYSTAL CITY) A new book about the history of the Girl Scouts in Crystal City is now available, it was written by local historian Lisa Gendron. The title of the book is “History of the Crystal City, Missouri Girl Scout House and the Early Years of Crystal City Scouting”.
Gendron says she began researching and writing the book when a group she is a member of—the Jefferson County Historical Society was trying to secure the Girl Scout House for its museum several years ago. Since then, that organization has established a museum in Victoria and the Crystal City Historical Society has developed a museum at the Girl Scout House.

Gendron says the Girl Scout House came into existence in 1932 as a building owned by Pittsburgh Plate Glass became a meeting place for the scouts.

Gendron says her book has plenty of photographs.

According to Gendron, she interviewed many former Girl Scouts who have all told stories about the heated floor in the building.

Lisa Gendron was a guest Thursday during the Jefferson County Historical Society program on KJFF. To purchase a copy of the book, you can email Gendron, [email protected]
