Gigging Season Underway in Missouri Ozarks
(Dent County) Gigging season is well underway in the Show-Me State.
Dent County Conservation Agent Jason Midyett says there are several Ozark streams where you can be successful.
To get started at gigging…you will need a gigging boat with rails around the front where the gigger stands, you’ll need to rig a lighting system at the front of your boat and you’ll need a three or four pronged gig and pole.
Veteran giggers say the best gigs are forged by local blacksmiths.
The daily limit is 20 non-game fish and beware modified regulations for hog suckers on the Current River from Cedar Grove to the Arkansas state line where no more than five hog suckers can be included in your daily limit.
After a night of gigging, some giggers enjoy frying a mess of their fresh fish right on the river bank.
Missouri’s gigging season runs through January 31st.
