GoFundMe Account setup for the family of Damon Rice

A “Go Fund Me” page has been setup for the family of 6-year-old Damon Joseph Rice.

Rice, who was a first grade student at Plattin Primary Elementary School in the Jefferson R-7 School District, was killed when he was struck by a school bus Tuesday afternoon in the Oakland Manor Subdivision south of Festus.

According to the “Go Fund Me” account, the page was setup by Nicholas LeRoux, an uncle of Rice’s. The page goes on to state, “His (Rice’s) parents can’t afford a funeral for their baby. Please help in any way you can, all contributions will go towards his proper burial and memorial. Thank you.”

As of Thursday morning, more than 800 donations have been made, raising more than $37,200 for the family.

A candlelight vigil for Rice was held on Wednesday night in the parking lot of Plattin Primary Elementary.

Dozens of community members came out to the mourn the loss and support the family.
