Gracie Wright Named Softball Co-Player Of The Year

(Leadington) Softball in the Regional Radio listening area is so good, the coaches couldn’t decide on just one player of the year. West County’s Gracie Wright and Valle Catholic’s Abree Zipprich were named Co-Players of the Year. Wright led the Bulldogs to the Class Two state championship game with single-season records for earned run average (.890), strikeouts (227) and wins (24). After learning of her Dream Team fate, while listening to the host of Country Gold Saturday evenings on J98, Wright sent a congratulatory text to her Co-Player of the Year.

While West County was playing in Springfield for the Class Two championship, Valle Catholic were there as well in Class One, and both teams supported each other throughout the two days. Wright says she and Zipprich have a good relationship.

Wright says it was a special season because she got to end it with the girls she started playing softball with.

Wright has always played for her dad, CJ. She says he got the most out of her, even if he was a little harder on her.

Wright also had a .539 batting average and clubbed three home runs to go with 31 runs batted in. She’ll continue to play softball at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.

Wright was named first team all-state as a pitcher. West County ended the year with a record of 24-4.
