(HILLSBORO)

Those are the sounds of the Grandview band sending off cross country runners Taylor Ficke, Kyrsten Elder and Kris Parker Friday morning as the three are headed to Jefferson City for the Class 2 state meet. Grandview Athletic Director Don Jeffries wanted to surprise the runners…and he succeeded.

Elder is a junior and qualified for state as a sophomore and freshman, but even she wasn’t sure they’d get a send-off again this year.

Ficke is a freshman and had no idea about the send-off which made her very happy. Ficke then responded to being questioned about what her favorite part of qualifying for state is.

Then there is senior Kris Parker who became the first Grandview boy to qualify for state under 4th year head coach Scott Meyer. It was almost bound to happen that Parker made it to state his senior year, based on his experience as a freshman at Northwest.

Grandview AD Don Jeffries wrapped up the celebration uttering proud words for what Ficke, Elder, and Parker have been able to accomplish.

The Class 2 state cross country meet in Jefferson City is scheduled for a 1:05 p.m. start on Saturday.
