Grocery Store Employees Could Strike

(Farmington) Your local Schnucks could be missing some key employees very soon.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local Union 88, which represents over 12-hundred employees of the St. Louis-based grocery store voted to reject the company’s contract offer and have cleared leadership to call for a strike should it become necessary.
Those specific employees are the meat, deli and seafood clerks who make up about 11% of the grocery store chain’s personnel.
Local Union 88 says the contract offered by Schnucks does not provide competitive wages and would put members’ healthcare plan in jeopardy.
Contract negotiations began in January.
Locally, Schnucks has stores Farmington, Festus, Sullivan, Cape Girardeau and Waterloo, Illinois.
