Halley, Agers back to lead young St. Pius softball

(Festus) The St. Pius Lancers have plenty of good memories from softball in 2019.

But 15 wins and a district championship were due largely to a strong senior class, which means there will be plenty of new faces.

But head coach Kevin Halley says, inexperience aside, he likes being around the 2020 squad.

One returner is the straw that stirs the Lancers’ drink.

All-state pitcher A.J. Agers is back after posting a 1.96 earned run average in the circle and also pounding out a .509 batting average.

Halley says, if there are holes in her game, Agers will attack them.

But with an otherwise brand new team and a pandemic raging in the background, Halley says he’s truly approaching this season one game at a time.

St. Pius softball will start the 2020 season at the Notre Dame Tournament in St. Louis on August 28th and 29th.

The Lancers will have their first home game on September 1st against Saxony Lutheran, and they will hold Senior Night that evening.
