Health Department on COVID-19 Case Increase and Back to School Plans

(Jefferson County) The Jefferson County Health Department (JCHD) remains busy not only keeping up with the increasing number in coronavirus cases in the county but meeting with school districts and going over each districts return to school plan.

We asked JCHD Director Kelley Vollmar on the latest COVID status in the county.

In terms of schools returning back to in-person classes, some districts have went with requiring the wearing of face masks with some districts making it optional.

Vollmar shares the health departments stance on those districts that have made the wearing of face masks a choice.

Tuesday the JCHD reported 48 new cases of Covid-19 in the county, bringing the total number of positive cases to 26,719 since March of last year.

The current active cases is 618, and there have been 266 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
