(HERCULANEUM) Herculaneum Athletic Director Jonathan Roop joined KJFF Sports Talk Thursday to discuss the upcoming 2018-19 sports season.

A DeSoto native and Westminster College graduate, Roop is replacing longtime Herky AD Robert Bradshaw. Roop feels very fortunate to have gained some great mentors along the way to his new role as the AD.

Then Roop addressed Herky graduate and now football head coach Cody Hunter.

The football team opens up the season at Cuba and then at Fredericktown, with the Hall of Fame Game planned for the home opener September 7th against Jefferson. It’ll be Herculaneum’s Andy Runzi being inducted. Homecoming will be October 5th against crosstown rival Crystal City.

Roop also mentioned the boys and girls cross country teams. The Blackcat girls finished 2nd at state last year, just two points behind 1st place Festus. The boys team took 3rd place and was led by now graduate Loki Cortner and returning junior Jonathon Coffman. Roop talks about the staff that 7th-year head coach Kyle Davis has coming into the 2018 season.

And finally, there’s girls volleyball and basketball with head coaches Audrey Meda and Riley Blair, respectively. Both programs are coming off 20-plus win seasons and Roop briefly talks about what those two teams will feature this year, beginning with volleyball.
