Herculaneum Beats Valley Park 1-0
(HERCULANEUM)    The Herculaneum Blackcats used Dylan Black’s solo homerun along with his five and two thirds innings of shutout pitching Tuesday night to beat the Valley Park Hawks 1-0. The game was broadcast on AM 1400 KJFF and mymoinfo.com
Black’s solo shot over the fence in right field, stood up to be the winning run as Valley Park ended up stranding two runners at third and one at second base, a total of five were left on in the ballgame.
Black came out of the game with two outs and nobody on in the top of the sixth.  Herculaneum coach Ryan Dickerman was keeping a close eye on the pitch count because he wants Dylan to be ready for the district opener on Saturday.

Dickerman was complimentary of Valley Park’s shortstop Will Geary. Geary, a sophomore, made a couple of spectacular plays to squelch the Blackcats. Geary fielded the last out in the fifth inning and then all three Herky outs in the sixth.

Dylan Black was relieved by his brother Devin in the sixth.  Devin worked one and two thirds innings to get the save.  He faced five batters and struckout two.
Herculaneum improves to 11-12 and will play the 12-13 De Soto Dragons Wednesday afternoon and then on Saturday they open district play at Ste. Genevieve against the 8-6 Perryville Pirates. Game time 12pm.
Valley Park is now 17-4.  The Hawks will host Northwest who is 10-15 on Thursday.
