(HERCULANEUM) The Herculaneum boys cross country team finished 1st place at the Cape Notre Dame Invitational this past weekend ahead of district foes Notre Dame, Potosi, and Festus, who all finished top-5.

Head coach Kyle Davis felt really good about the guys finishing 1st place for the first time this season.

The Herky boys cross country team finished 3rd at state last year. Coach Davis likes their chances of doing well again at state, but districts will be the first hurdle.

As for the Herky girls cross country team, they are coming off a 3rd place finish at the Cape Notre Dame Invitational. Senior standout Nautica Stricklin finished in first place with a time of 20:28.19. It was her first top finish of the season.

Coach Davis says it’s been a roller coaster year for Nautica, which began with her having to come back from an injury over the summer.

Aside from Nautica, Herculaneum had junior Chloe Richardson and sophomore Laura Maddox finish in the top 20. Coach Davis sets his expectations for the team’s postseason run at the end of the month.

The next race for the Herculaneum boys and girls cross country teams is this upcoming weekend in the Potosi Invitational.
