Herculaneum hoists Jefferson for hoops doubleheader sweep on KJFF

(Herculaneum) The Herculaneum Blackcats won both basketball matchups with the Jefferson Blue Jays Friday night on KJFF.

In the girls’ game, Herculaneum rolled to a 56-28 victory.

After Jefferson only trailed by one at the end of the first quarter, senior Kyrsten Britton helped the Blackcat offense get rolling.

Britton scored a season-high 16 points to help Herky pull away from the second quarter on.

Head coach Riley Blair said the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game is one they hope will continue to play a starring role.

Herculaneum improves to 6-9 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Jefferson falls to 3-14 and 0-2 in the JCAA Small-School Division.

In the boys’ game, the Blackcats won a wild shootout 70-61.

Every time the Blue Jays looked like they might get knocked down, they found a way to rally.

But, eventually, Herky senior forward Dallin Fuller proved too much for the Jays to handle.

Fuller poured in 23 points, tied for a game high with Jefferson’s Colton Richardson, to be named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game.

Cats head coach Jason Jarvis says his veteran big name lived up to the hype of a rivalry game.

Herculaneum gets its first conference win and is now 8-6 overall, while Jefferson drops its league opener and drops to 6-12.
