(HERCULANUEM) The Herculaneum Blackcats escaped a furious Grandview Eagles second half comeback to prevail 26-20 at home Friday night on KJFF. Things immediately started positively for the Blackcats with a 54-yard scurry from running back Austin Huson.

Herculaneum used that momentum from scoring the first touchdown to take a 20-7 halftime lead. On the second Herky drive of the 3rd quarter, the Blackcats took 8 plays to cover 43 yards with running back Drew Gibson marching it in from 6-yards out to give them a 26-7 lead.

Then the Eagles went to work. On the ensuing drive, Grandview’s running back David Creath proved too much for the Herky defense.

A two-yard run by Creath midway through the 4th brought Grandview within six. The Eagles continued to give Herky a run for their money right up to the very end, but an incomplete pass by Jakob Brand as time expired gave, Herky the 26-20 win.

Blackcats head coach Cody Hunter says he is happy with the win, but the score was too close for his comfort.

Herky player of the game Austin Huson talked about what it was like to experience this type of game.

Eagles head coach Dave Dallas says midway into the season he is definitely seeing some growth with his team.

Grandview falls to 0-6 and will take on Jefferson at home next week. Herculaneum is now 2-4 and it’s homecoming for the Blackcats next Friday against Crystal City.
