Highway patrol on recent winter weather and current accident statistics in the state

(Jefferson County) There’s no question Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol were busy during the recent winter weather systems that passed through portions of the state.

Corporal Logan Bolton with the patrol says last weeks storm system that brought freezing rain and sleet to the area created some trouble spots on the roads.

The best thing to do according to Corporal Bolton is to stay home during inclement weather; however, if you have to get out, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination while driving slow and leave a decent amount of room between you and other vehicles on the road.

Other than the recent winter weather, we asked Corporal Bolton about the latest fatal accident statistics in the state.

Last year 1,046 people died in traffic accidents in Missouri, which is the second consecutive year in which more than 1,000 people have perished in motor vehicle accidents in the state.

The highway patrol, like many state agencies including MoDOT is part of the “Show Me Zero” campaign efforts, which is a strategic highway safety plan for eliminating fatalities and serious injuries on Missouri roadways.
