(KIRKWOOD) The Hillsboro boys basketball team begins its state playoff run Tuesday night at Kirkwood High School on AM 1400 KJFF with a Class 4 Sectional affair with the St. Mary’s Dragons.

Hillsboro is riding a 15-game winning streak into this matchup after beating Lutheran South in the District 3 title game. St. Mary’s has won five straight games including its 75-58 victory over Gateway in the District 4 championship game on Friday. Dragons 2nd-year head coach Bryan Turner relies a lot on St. Louis University commit, Yuri Collins, to provide a spark to the team.

Collins has only played in 19 of the 27 total games for St. Mary’s due to injury. But in his time on the floor, Collins is 2nd on the team in points, 3rd in rebounds, and 1st in assists as a 5-foot-9 guard. Hillsboro head coach Dan Johnson has certainly taken notice of Collins and is quite impressed with him.

There are two other guys for St. Mary’s that Coach Turner highlights on his team and they are seniors Donavan Parker and Damon Wiley. He says that both players are good motivators.

Hillsboro’s Dan Johnson has studied the Dragons on film and their team speed is something his guys will have to be well-prepared for.

Hillsboro enters this Class 4 Sectional game with a 23-4 record while St. Mary’s carries a 15-12 record. Tip-off at Kirkwood High School is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday on AM 1400 KJFF. Coverage will begin at 5:45 with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show.
