Hillsboro, DeSoto, St. Pius, North County battle for district volleyball title spot on KJFF

(Hillsboro) The high school volleyball postseason begins Monday on KJFF as the Class 4 District 2 tournament starts with a semifinal doubleheader from Hillsboro.

The top-seeded Hillsboro Hawks face off against the Desoto Dragons in the first semifinal.

On top of the struggles DeSoto has faced in a 1-18 season, most of the varsity roster as well as head coach Lindsey Brinkman will miss the match due to quarantine.

Brinkman says she told her young JV players that will step up and play to make the most of this opportunity.

Hillsboro went 14-6 under head coach Erin Boss and won the JCAA Large-School Division thanks to the play of middle blockers Mackenzie Baker and Maya Wright.

The second semifinal match will see the St. Pius Lancers face the North County Raiders.

Third-seeded North County is 13-12-1.

Raiders head coach Chelsey Crocker says it’s a been a roller coaster ride at times.

St. Pius has won eight of its last 10 matches to improve to 17-7-3 and is seeking another district championship.

Lancers head coach Shannon Leftridge says the key ingredient this year might be the emergence of Sarah Wells at setter.

The winner between St. Pius and North County faces either Hillsboro or DeSoto on Wednesday night for the Class 4 District 2 championship.

Coverage of the semifinals begins with the Flieg’s Equipment Pregame Show at 4:45 on AM 1400 KJFF.
