(HILLSBORO) News broke on Twitter around 6 p.m. Wednesday that Hillsboro Hawk pitcher and first baseman Michael Brewer has signed with the Texas Rangers.

Back in June, the Rangers selected Brewer in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball Draft, making him the 995th player taken. By signing with the Rangers, Brewer will not be attending Southern Miss University for baseball. Hillsboro head coach Kevin Lucas tweeted out an image of Brewer signing his contract and said,

“Well it looks like I just became a Texas Rangers fan!! Congrats to Michael Brewer for signing to get his professional baseball career started!! I’m excited to see what the future has in store for him!! Enjoy the ride & good luck buddy!!”

Details of the contract are not known at this time.

Brewer recently wrapped up an illustrious career at Hillsboro by earning his 3rd Regional Radio Baseball Dream Team selection while getting the opportunity to pitch in a Class 5 State Sectional game. Brewer hit 8 home runs, drove in 53 teammates, tossed 99 innings, accumulated 148 strikeouts, and had a 3.04 E.R.A. in four years for the Hawks.
