Hillsboro holds off Windsor in crucial softball showdown on KJFF

(Imperial) The Hillsboro Hawks closed in on a softball conference championship by knocking off the Windsor Owls 4-1 Monday on KJFF.

Hillsboro is ranked seventh in the state in Class 4, and maybe the biggest reason for that is all-state senior pitcher Elly Eckrich.

It was Eckrich who put the Hawks up first in the third inning.

Windsor did manage to strike against Eckrich to tie the game in the fourth.

But Hillsboro retook the lead in the fifth inning and got some big swings down the stretch to pad the lead.

Eckrich didn’t need much cushion to seal the deal.

Eckrich finished with 8 strikeouts in a complete-game victory and also had 2 hits at the plate.

Hillsboro head coach Kevin Lucas says the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game is a true superstar.

While Windsor, ranked sixth in Class 4, falls to 15-6, Hillsboro wins its 10th straight game to improve to 21-5.

The Hawks also improve to 6-0 in conference play and clinch at least a share of the JCAA championship.
